Job Description:


The Associate Pastor of Worship and Students at First Baptist Church Cantonment (FBCC) exists to support the overall ministry of FBCC.  This person must be gifted in leading blended congregational worship and building young disciples for Christ The Associate Pastor of Worship and Students will be a spiritual leader who will lead the congregation, choir, praise team, and band to use their voices and instruments to worship God.  The Associate Pastor will also have a heart for discipleship among students in sixth through twelfth grade and will work to ensure that the students are engaged in a vibrant and comprehensive ministry that is Christ centered and gospel focused.  The Associate Pastor of Worship and Students is accountable to the Senior Pastor.  General personnel policies and guidelines that also apply are contained in the FBCC Personnel Policy and Procedures Manual.


Requirements:

  • A calling to pastoral ministry
  • Bachelor’s degree. Some formal training in music (specifically church music) and a seminary degree is preferred
  • A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a vital, growing personal relationship with Him
  • A belief that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God
  • In agreement with the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message
  • Join the membership of First Baptist Church Cantonment and agree to uphold our church’s covenant and statement of faith
  • Understanding of, and willingness to serve within the doctrinal commitments of the church
  • Maintain God ordained priorities in life putting Jesus Christ first, your spouse second, your children third, and the ministry fourth  
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and worship philosophy of FBCC
  • Commit to positive relationships and communication with the Senior Pastor and other ministry staff leaders and secretarial staff
  • Commit to positive relationships with deacons, church lay leadership, and general church family
  • Gifted in leading blended congregational worship
  • Skilled in choral, vocal, and instrumental direction.
  • Able to read music
  • Develop and manage annual budget for both Worship Ministries and Student Ministries
  • Should have experience leading and managing teams
  • Reach out to the unchurched in the community, engage them with the gospel, and involve them in the work of the church
  • Participate in general pastoral duties as needed (weddings, funerals, counseling, etc.)
  • Should have the ability to delegate responsibilities
  • A lifestyle that is congruent with the biblical requirements for leaders (1 Tim. 3:1-13; 2 Tim. 2; Titus 1:5-9)
  • Experience leading youth in a church setting  
  • Gifted and is called to youth ministry, loves young people, and has a passion for evangelism and outreach
  • An engaging teacher, with a strong biblical and theological background

 

Worship Responsibilities:

  • Work with Media and audio leader in the use of technology in worship and in the use of sound, lighting, computers, Pro Presenter, Power Point, and video projection
  • Organize, coordinate, communicate, implement, and evaluate total worship and Music Ministry
  • Lead Sunday morning, Wednesday evening and any other special services
  • Lead Choir and band practice
  • Able to incorporate other art forms as needed
  • Build the necessary teams to carry out the worship
  • Plan the corporate worship services of FBCC in consultation with the Senior Pastor and do so with prayer, conceptual forethought, theological accuracy, and musical appropriateness
  • Ensure that all the musical and technical aspects of the service advance the theme for the day
  • Maintain music library, materials, supplies, musical instruments and other sound equipment
  • Oversee song and choral selection, media preparation and presentation, sound and lighting enhancements, and coordination of all instrumentalists, vocalists, and dramatists
  • Communicate the worship ministry schedule and orders of worship to the church Secretary for promotion (digital/print media)
  • Direct all weekly activities and rehearsals necessary to facilitate worship in services
  • Provide pastoral care for the worship teams and choirs
  • Introduce our worship teams and choirs to worship training provided by other ministries, books, and conferences
  • Plan major seasonal and/or outreach musicals/dramas when time allows
  • Responsible for his own supply when he is out for any reason
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor

 

Student Ministries Responsibilities:

  • Develop a balanced program for youth (6th-12th grades) including spiritual, educational, and emotional development
  • Implement a visionary approach to creative youth ministry to include planning and evaluating all youth events such as retreats, camps, fellowships, seminars, mission events, and educational curriculum.
  • Regularly teach the Bible to the youth with conviction, compassion, and care
  • Work alongside staff, parents, members, and volunteers to build a strong and dynamic youth program.
  • Establish a long-term vision for how the church engages youth and their families
  • Enlist, train, and supervise all volunteers in the student ministry area
  • Promote the youth ministry by creating attractive and compelling environments to which our youth can invite their non-Christian friends
  • Build a team of passionate adult leaders to help mentor and disciple the youth
  • Provide students with opportunities for nurture and growth
  • Support and assist the parents in the process of discipling their youth
  • Equip the current youth to share the Gospel with their friends
  • Stay informed of new resources and changes in youth ministry and youth culture and adjust our programming as needed to maintain a current and effective program
  • Coordinate Sunday and Wednesday curriculum for youth (grades 6-12)
  • Work in partnership with schools in the area to effectively reach youth in the community and develop a strategic ministry outreach plan
  • Keep records of youth participation
  • Communicate with the youth and parents in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all available resources (email, website, bulletin, texting, etc.).
  • Attend all weekly Staff Meetings
  • Ensure that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all youth ministry settings
  • Teach youth Sunday school class and lead Wednesday night discipleship meeting
  • Responsible for his own supply when he is out for any reason
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor
